Mark Adamo - Lysistrata, or The Nude Goddess [Double CD]

World Premiere Recording: Boston Modern Orchestra Project and Gil Rose present the first-ever recording of Mark Adamo's opera, "Lysistrata, or The Nude Goddess." This ambitious work reimagines the classic Aristophanes comedy with intricate psychological depth and electrifying musicality. A Musically Electrifying Experience: The opera features a richly textured score with shifting harmonies and mercurial transformations. Melodies change allegiance, identities blur, and every musical gesture carries a double meaning, creating a labyrinth of sound that explores desire, power, and identity. Artistic Significance: Mark Adamo's libretto moves beyond caricature to complexity, recasting Lysistrata as a figure confronting not only the politics of war but also the ambiguities of love. Conducted by Gil Rose, the Boston Modern Orchestra Project, renowned for championing 20th and 21st-century American music, delivers a powerful performance. A Return to Pentatone: This release marks the collective return of Adamo, Gil Rose, and the Boston Modern Orchestra Project to the Pentatone label, following their GRAMMY-nominated recording of John Corigliano's "The Lord of Cries."
